Kevin Bowen is a master brass and woodwind repair technician. He received a degree in Musical Instrument Repair from Red Wing Vocational Institute in 1987, having studied with Gene Beckwith, and has made his livelihood restoring and repairing instruments since. With his wife Dawn, Kevin is the owner / master technician of North Georgia Horn Works - a small, family-owned shop located in a restored historic home in downtown Kennesaw. His clientèle includes musicians at every level - numerous middle and high school band programs throughout the southeast, as well as university students and professors from such schools as The University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State, The University of Tennessee, Florida State, Columbus State, Berry College. Additionally, several professional artists, including members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, the Greenville Symphony, the Chattanooga Symphony, the Joe Gransden Big Band, the Atlanta Latin Jazz Orchestra - have made Mr. Bowen their choice for their instrument maintenance, repair and customization needs.
Kevin studied and played horn for over 30 years, including studies and master classes with Susan Corrigan, James Conley, Miles Johnson, Frøydis Ree Wekre, Barry Tuckwell, The Empire Brass, and the Canadian Brass. He performed with the Minnesota Youth Orchestra, Greenville (South Carolina) Symphony, the Greenville (Pennsylvania) Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Athens Symphony, the Rochester Symphonic Band, the Shenandoah Conservatory Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, the Youngstown Brass Quintet, the Athens Brass Quintet, Tara Winds, and the Georgia Philharmonic. Currently, Kevin plays upright bass with The Lane Drifters, as well as various bluegrass, rockabilly and country bands in the area.
