Kevin Bowen, Proprietor/Repair Specialist

About Kevin

Kevin Bowen is a brass and woodwind repair specialist.  He received a degree in Musical Instrument Repair from Red Wing Vocational Institute in 1987, and has made his livelihood restoring and repairing instruments since.  His clientèle includes numerous middle and high school band programs throughout the southeast, as well as members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, the Greenville Symphony, the Chattanooga Symphony, the University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, Georgia State, the 8th Regiment Civil War Re-enactment Band, Berry College, Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps.  Additionally, several professional artists, private instructors and college professors have made Mr. Bowen their choice for their instrument maintenance, repair and customization needs.

Kevin studied and played horn for over 30 years, including studies and master classes with Susan Corrigan, James Conley, Miles Johnson, Frøydis Ree Wekre, Barry Tuckwell, The Empire Brass, and the Canadian Brass.  He performed with the Minnesota Youth Orchestra, Greenville (South Carolina) Symphony, the Greenville (Pennsylvania) Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Athens Symphony, the Rochester Symphonic Band, the Shenandoah Conservatory Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, the Youngstown Brass Quintet, Tara Winds, and the Georgia Philharmonic.  He later traded the horn for a 5 string banjo and after years of practice (most of which in a sound-proof barn), performed with Paul Williams and the Victory Trio.  During his two-year stint with Paul, the band recorded “Where No One Stands Alone” for Rebel Records, and was awarded the 2007 and 2008 SPBGMA Bluegrass Gospel - Traditional Group of the Year.  Currently, Kevin has taken up the upright bass and plays bluegrass, country, and rockabilly.

Equally competent on all brass and woodwind instruments, student and professional, Kevin can handle everything from stuck mouthpieces to saxophone overhauls to screwbell conversions.  As owner and Master Technician of North Georgia Horn Works located in Kennesaw, Georgia, Kevin is also a member in good standing of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians.
